Medieval Europe based itself around a system of hierarchy called the feudal system. The Feudal system was a way of allocating who ruled over what, and who served them.
The Ranking of People in Medieval Europe
The Catholic Church:
The Catholic Church was the most powerful and influential religion in Medieval times. People listened to the church representatives to gain the best path into heaven.
The King/Royalty:
The King was also arguably the most powerful figure in medieval times. He was the one who dispensed his land to the lords and barons.
The Lords and Barons:
The Lords and barons were men who took care of smaller divisions of the Kings Land. They were in charge of caring for villages in their territories.
The Peasants and Serfs:
The Peasants and serfs were the poorest yet they made up 90% of the population in medieval Europe. Their lives consisted majorly of farming and they had very little food.
